Up For Air…

Coming Up For Air…

I have been deep in a pool of revisions. That is why I haven’t been on here much lately, but I wanted to let you all know I am still alive and that I will soon be posting more often! I never knew how much work the editing/rewrite stage takes in writing a book. I always thought the writing part was what took up all the time, guess I was wrong. Boy though, does the editing take a while.

This next week I will give you all an update.

I am trying to think of some different things to help me get done quicker. I’ve been thinking of getting up earlier to work on it before the rest of the world is beckoning for my attention as I have been EXTREMELY BUSY during the day. Mom had a surgery this last week, so I’ve been helping out a lot.

Besides that, I’m happy because I’ve been able to do a lot of reading as well… or maybe I am just squeezing reading time into the in-between time that I have. I’ve been reading on my iPad and have been enjoying it.

Although, I must say nothing will ever compare to a real book. There is just something so sacred about holding a book, smelling the paper and ink together so close, the chance to experience what so many people in the earlier ages never could… since books were so rare and expensive.

I think our world needs to be careful with just relying on the digital world. I mean look at the Library in Alexandria (A LONG TIME AGO). When it burnt down think about all that history that was just gone. The burning parchment holding secrets to the past that we would never get back. I just fear that with the internet and digital world- we take it for granted. But, yes I just went on a small bunny trail… I will post later this month a list of books that I read and also some reviews as well.

I have been search for jobs and internships. I really want to get an internship at a Publishing House or with a Literary Agent- as an assistant. But on the side I am planning some information and lessons for writing classes. I want to teach some small classes here and there. I want to offer classes at physical places and I may also offer them here online. Let me know if you would be interested. I will post more on that soon!

Just a parting thought for the night:

Have you ever wanted to be someone?

You know what I mean, right?

Have you ever had days where you feel like what you are doing isn’t making a difference, like what you want to do is too far away and unreachable?

I was always told to reach for the moon and other galaxies and if you miss you will land among the stars… I still believe that…

Coughing People & Long Hours in Airports

uffda_mini_poster_print

It seems like just yesterday that I was on the other side of the world.

This is really too crazy.

I am back in Minnesota and is it ever cold here.  UFFDA…
(I may have plenty of readers who don’t quite understand what Uffda means. Read about it here… It totally describes me. :P )

It felt like I was traveling for a week. Well, I was traveling for 3 days so almost, but not really.

I left Brisbane and flew to LAX via Taipei. Yes… Taipei. I had an eleven hour layover there. YES…. you heard correctly… ELEVEN HOURS…

I found out though that Taipei Airport gives a free half-day tour. So, I went on it and saw many different things. I will be sure to write an update on the tour and such.

IMG_4035

After Taipei, I landed in LAX with a small layover of about 2 hours and 15 minutes. It was so hectic getting through immigrations and customs and security. Besides that LAX is a crazy airport. In the knick of time I made it to my gate and boarded my next flight to Denver. Only having about an hour and a half layover to make it to my next plane to Fargo from Denver. After Denver, I finally boarded my last flight of the day.

look at the writing!!!

Look at the writing on the back of the pop can!!!

But, at the moment I don’t want to talk about the flying or traveling part of my journey. I want to dedicate this post to flight and airport manners or lack of them.

Okay, what are some things that I saw at the airport or in the plane?

In the flight from Taipei, I experienced something no one should ever have to experience. The man sitting next to me clearly had a cold and kept blowing his nose in his hand. YES!!!!! IN his bare hand!!!!!! And then he would wipe it onto his coat.

I was thinking, “Seriously, if you do that one more time… I am going to tell you not to do that in front of me.” But then after he did it again and continued to I just got even more disgusted and stood up for a while to escape him. I couldn’t stand being next to him. I mean… GROSS. You don’t do that.

Other things that grossed me out or annoyed me:

  • People who didn’t cover their mouthes when they sneeze or cough. (This happened while I was in Asia mostly, but there were many people doing this.) It made me hope I wasn’t going to catch a bug. When I got home I was sure to get a Flu shot just to be safe from this flu epidemic going around in America.
  • Rude people (I understand people were probably traveling just as far as I did or ever farther… but really, don’t treat others horribly…it wont make your day any smoother.)
  • Mean security or customs people. I am not guilty of anything just because I was in Taipei, Singapore, and Australia while on my journeys.  I don’t like it how they try making you feel guilty for NOTHING. For just standing in front of them.

What are some things that annoy you when you are traveling in Airports??

Packing… STILL…

My desk has filled up with a bunch of things....

Packing Still…

You know how they say you can learn a lot about a person by seeing what is in their locker? Or you can learn a lot about a woman by what she carries in her purse? That is a thought that came to me today while packing. Everything I pack has meaning. In each item a person could probably see that they are mine.

What about you?

Do the things you own radiate off of your personality?

But yes, I just thought I would share a few photos. Now, I am not a messy person – but if some of the photos seem crazy it is because it’s crazy to only be allowed to pack your life into two 50lb bags without exceeding the weight limit.

Packing these giants is a long process. Pack them and then weigh them. They weigh too much. REarrange things. Weigh AGAIN.

What should I bring with me on my carry-on? AGH... troublesome thing to pack as well. Hehe... can you spot Lizzy?

I know that most people wouldn’t want to show their packing process… but I just thought… since you all are close friends and all I wanted to show you everything that I am experiencing. And part of that is the expat life I have been living.

Once back in America, I will start doing a daily goal of writing a short story everyday. I think it will be an exciting journey.

AND…

I will EDIT… Further on The Mason of Hearts… Yes, I said it…

EDIT.

Then as I do that I will also work on putting together a Query letter to send in to an agent. How exciting, right? I am kind of scared actually. But, it will be interesting none the less. I will let you tag along on my journey to finding an agent.

How about you? If you look around your room, car, house, locker, purse, or backpack… could a stranger look at all of those items and come up with a clue on what sort of person you are?

Making the most of it… 4 days left…

How do you make the most of a moment?

This is officially my first post of 2013. How exciting, right? No… well, it was a bit weird the other day when I signed and dated something – I almost put ‘2012’ down. Ha… but yeah, how can we make sure that we make the most of 2013 and the days that we have.

There are moments in our life that we don’t grab onto as hard as we should and make the most of it. It is almost kind of like when My family and I were hiking in Glacier Montana one time. My mom made a note on how all the people who live close to beautiful things sort of just take it for granted. I have also noticed that having lived on the Sunshine Coast… many people take for granted the beautiful beach and the ocean at their doorsteps.

But then again there is another thing that people take for granted. People. Those they love.

I remember being told a story about how when my grandpa died that my Dad wished he could have said good-bye one last time. I understand that feeling.

There are also moments where you pay attention to small things that shouldn’t be paid attention to and then that distracts from what really matters. I know I have been victim to that one.

In four days I have to fly back to America. It is bittersweet, really. I am excited to see family and my country again, but in the same breath my heart is breaking! I don’t want to leave Johan here. I guess I must just go out and enjoy these 4 days like a banshee… and then I will look forward to the future while trusting God with his plan for us. While looking forward to his visits.

So what about you? What do you do to make the most of your time that you have? Also do I have any readers who are in long distance relationships? If so, give me a wave (comment)! :)

December – The Month of Packing

December – The Month of Packing

Have you ever seen the movie Groundhogs Day? Where Bill Murray’s character had to keep replaying one day over and over until he got it right? Yeah, and it happened to be Groundhogs Day (that is kind of given away in the title.)

But anyways, I sort of feel like December has been a Groundhogs Day of it’s own in a way.

“Why?” You ask?

Well, it seems it’s been a month of packing. Rolling and squeezing things into tight places like containers, trailers, post boxes, and now suitcases. Yep, I decided to write a blog post instead of starting my packing just yet. If you would like to look at my Journey to Perth and back again check it out here.

There is just something omnious about an empty suitcase. You know what I mean? I mean it’s empty. It hasn’t been filled yet.

An empty suitcase could bring you anywhere.

I suppose you could even compare it to a New Year. It hasn’t been filled yet. Maybe that is what scares me. It seems that is always what has scared me the most in my life. The Unknown…

2013 holds a lot of unknown stuff for me. I will be going back to the States on the 9th of January. There are a few things I am scared about. Right now, I don’t have a job and I want to find something where I could start supporting myself completely. And I don’t know where I will search. Right now the whole map of the United States is open for consideration. which is a bit scary as well, because it’s a huge country. I recently got used to calling Brisbane home, and used to having my boyfriend only a few miles away.

What are you packing?

What are you packing in your suitcase for the New Year? Here is my to pack list.

  1. Faith GPS – Faith is an important one. It’s so important to have someone who knows where to go and when you should turn left or right. And I know Jesus knows which way I need to turn. So, I am definitely inviting him on my New Year Trip. And I need to continue to trust that he has it all planned out and that I just need to sit back and relax… he is the Mason of my heart and he knows what I want.
  2. Love –  “To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides.” – David Viscott.
I find love to be extremely important. I definitely wouldn’t be the same girl today if I hadn’t met Johan. I am so happy to be with him. (I really wish I could just throw him into my suitcase.) lol… but since I can’t do that. I will put him in my New Years Suitcase and dream for the future. We will find a way. Love always does.
  3. Universal Resume/Application – For any business people interested in hiring me… this is just a metaphorical resume and application. I want to be prepared and will pack the determination and oomph to get a good job.
  4. Tennis Shoes – For maintaining my health. That is something that has been made even clearer to me lately.
  5. Notebook – To write in.

Well, I believe I have spent enough time thinking about this for now. I am going to start in my closet to figure out what I want to keep and throw. I will let you know if I have an adventure in Narnia.

I pray you all have a wonderful New Year and that God greatly blesses each of you with health and great happiness.

So, then… what about you? What are you going to pack in the Metaphorical suitcase so you are ready for the New Year?

2012 is coming to an end…

IMG_3618Back In Brisbane

After spending 2-weeks helping Johan’s parents pack their belongings to move to Perth, a week on the road from Sunshine Coast, Queensland to Perth, Western, Australia we are back in Brisbane.

Last night when we arrived back in Brisbane, I felt like I was home. You know that lovely feeling you get after arriving home from a long journey? That is how I felt… *big sigh*

But then that made me think about what day it was. The 28th of December. I don’t have that much time in Australia until I have to go back to America because my visa ends in the New Year. Which is tough for me and Johan, because I don’t want to leave him here. Really wish he were studying in America this next Semester. We will continue standing strong and loving across the distance. We did it for one year – so we can definitely do it for a little while longer until we wont have to be separated by the ocean ever again. He is planning on coming to visit during his next school break and also possibly Christmas! I am sooo pumped about that.

But yes, if you all could just keep us in your prayers that would be lovely.

Before leaving Johan's parents house on the Sunny Coast we decided to get a last picture there. :) It was a beautiful house!

On the way back to Brisbane. Some where over the country... I can now understand why I thought the whole of Australia was just Red Sand... before I came to Aussie. hehehehe... but really!
