Slaying The 7 Deadly Sins…

Hello Everyone,

I have been really busy writing lately. Blog posts and my book. Check out Blue Monkey Writing to see my latest post on how writers can slay the 2 twin witches (Gluttony and Sloth) which is the first of a blog series on how writers can combat the 7 deadly sins.

Since it is October, I have 3 months left in Australia and it is really scary, because I don’t want to have to go and be away from my boyfriend. I really like being in the same city as him and to have the kind of choice to be able to see him whenever. So, please keep me in your prayers as I will be doing some major job searching in the next for weeks.

Other than writing, I have been holding an October Writing Contest called ” The Haunting October Short Story Extravaganza Writing Contest”

Check out new pictures for the Haunting October Short Story Extravaganza Writing Contest!!! It isn’t too late to join! Did you know that LIGHT conquers the darkness?

Day 3 of Haunting Writing Contest (Join the Fun!)

The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. -John 1:5

Today was a super long day of writing (4,368) words so I thought I would put up the 3rd day of the Haunting October Short Story Extravaganza Writing Contest’s picture! :) Please join us in this months contest!

This writing contest will help you with your writing. When I write about dark things I like to bring the light out at the end and I make sure it conquers the darkness. Because in real life,  death is conquered by LIFE. Curses are conquered by BLESSINGS and darkness is conquered by LIGHT.

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lordyour God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. -Deuteronomy 30:19-20

Every day in October I will be uploading a new picture into this file on pinterest and also on my facebook page.

All you have to do is write a short story that one of the pictures have inspired you to write.

And then send it to me at devinberglund (at) live (dot) com and you could win a prize.

Deadline: The end of October. :)

The Haunting October Short Story Extravaganza

I am very excited to announce that this October I will be having a short story writing contest just like I did last year around this time called “The Haunting October Short Story Extravaganza” It had been such a great turn out that I think it would be awesome to do again. And the winners will win something and don’t worry – I think up good surprises. :)
To see the winners from last year, check out these links.

Emily Kunkel – The Farmhouse
Abigail Anderson – The Monster Inside of Me

Everyday I will upload a new hauntingly beautiful, slightly creepy, and enchanting photograph to my facebook page for your inspiration. Please check it everyday and see if you are prompted to write a short story that has something to do with the photo you picked. It doesn’t have to be word for word what you see – it just has to be creative and creepy since October is the month of Halloween.

I really enjoyed this last year! Once you have written it you may send it to my email devinberglund (at) live (dot) com with the Subject Box filled in as “Short Story Extravaganza” You have the whole month of October to do this. Have fun!! I will post more about this along with the first picture on October 1st.

24,705 words to go…

2,057 words written before 3pm! That is an awesome feeling… I need to figure out if it’s a possibility to finish my end parts of the story. I just wanted to do a quick update that I got my 2,000 done for today! It almost feels like 2,000 words isn’t enough, I should really be trying for 2,000 some more today! I will let you know how that goes!

I am just writing down on my blog my plan of attack to document how the process goes in finishing the novel when we keep word count goal! Something, I found last night was that I have so many pieces of the story that I am trying to bridge the gaps. How do you write?
1. Write all the way through?
2. Start at the end and work the way to the beginning?
3. or write what parts come to you and then fly by the seat of your pants with what parts come to you?

Let me know, would be great to find out! I find that I am a #3
This next week I plan on hosting one of the winner’s from my October “Nightmare” Writing Contest on this blog, so keep your eyes open for that!
